TriCore Research Institute (TRI) Attends the Confederation Latin American Biochemistry Clinical (COLABIOCLI) Conference

This past October, attendees from Latin America and around the world gathered in Cartagena, Colombia to attend the Confederacion Latinoamericana de Bioquimica Clinica Conferencia (COLABIOCLI). Closely aligned with the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM), the COLABIOCLI’s main focuses are on sharing lab expertise and educating laboratorians in Latin America This year’s conference theme was “Risk management in the clinical laboratory: Tools to ensure high-quality results.”
TRI attendees included:
- Veronica Luzzi, PhD, D(ABCC), TRI’s Section Chief and Medical Director, is the Chair of ADLM’s Latin American Working Group (LAWG) and has been involved since its formation in 2012. The LAWG attends COLABIOCLI with the mission of bringing educational programs and improving the quality of general laboratory services throughout Latin America.
- David Grenache, PhD, D(ABCC), TriCore’s Chief Scientific Officer, attended on behalf of ADLM and was sponsored by the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry.
Here are some highlights from the conference:
- Luzzi, along with two other colleagues from ADLM’s Latin American Working Group presented workshops centered on risk management and key concepts, risk-based approach to quality control and how it applies to point of care testing.
- Grenache’s presentation “Beyond the Laboratory: Transforming Patient Care through Impactful Test Results,” highlighted the crucial role of laboratory results in patient care.
- Luzzi also gave two other presentations on using eGFR markers to evaluate and manage patients with kidney diseases and approaches to assuring quality when measuring vitamin D.
- There was also discussion on future initiatives and changes to key positions. Dr. Luzzi will be stepping down as ADLM’s Chair for the Latin American Group. Meanwhile, COLABIOCLI is moving to have a new president and vice-president that will represent their organization internationally.
