Release of Medical Records to Patients
TriCore Reference Laboratories is committed to complying with the Privacy Rule of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and applicable state laws regarding patients’ privacy rights and the right of access to medical records. Patients can request copies of their laboratory records in three ways:
From their healthcare provider. We encourage patients to obtain copies of their laboratory results from the ordering healthcare provider. When results are requested in this way, the provider has an opportunity to explain the results as they relate to the patient’s condition.
At the time of specimen collection at a TriCore Patient Care Center. Copies of reports will be provided if requested by the patient at the time the specimen is collected. The request should be directed to a TriCore staff member at the Patient Care Center. Patients will receive their results by mail within five business days after all tests have been completed.
After specimen collection. Patients may request their results by calling TriCore’s Client Services Department after their specimen has been collected and testing is complete. In Albuquerque, the number to call is 505-938-8922; outside Albuquerque, the toll-free number is 800-245-3296. Patients will receive their results by mail within five days of the request if results are up to six months old. Results older than six months will be mailed within five to 10 business days of the request, depending upon the nature of the request.
