Corporate Overview
Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Albuquerque, TriCore Reference Laboratories is a community-based, independent reference laboratory providing full-service, state-of-the-art laboratory tests to healthcare professionals and their patients throughout New Mexico, the Southwest and across the nation.
With roots extending back 30 years, TriCore was formed by merging the hospital laboratories of Presbyterian Healthcare Services and the University of New Mexico (UNM) Health Sciences Center with The Reference Laboratory. The merger created an organization with more than 500 employees, making TriCore the largest medical laboratory in New Mexico. Today, we employ more than 1,100 who live and work in New Mexico and El Paso, Texas.
TriCore has emerged as a leader in reference laboratory services, performing a full range of tests – from the routine to the highly esoteric – under the direction of more than 30
pathologists and scientific directors. These experts are available around the clock to provide consultation on difficult cases, analysis of testing options or interpretive assistance.
We operate more than 50 satellite centers throughout New Mexico and the Southwest for the convenience of physicians and their patients. These include some 30
outpatient centers where our staff members draw blood and perform other standard procedures. Some of these centers house branch laboratories, allowing us to conduct standard lab tests on site. Our satellite centers also include the laboratories we operate on the premises of University of New Mexico Hospital (UNM Hospital) and Presbyterian hospitals.
TriCore participates in scientific research through collaboration with the University of New Mexico and numerous national and international biotech firms. We also provide training for pathology residents and fellows in conjunction with the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, and onsite clinical training for medical technologist, medical technician and clinical lab assistant students.
